I was headed to P. Terry's when I saw this dive along the side of 620. If only I'd kept going...
Sandeez Hamburger Hut looks like it was built 40 years ago for about $2500 and not updated much since. In other words, my kind of place! It had a nice decrepit look inside, a fairly expansive menu and a chalk board filled with interesting sounding burgers called "Bucket List Burgers". The floor slanted worse than anything I've seen since my grandfather's house in the mid-70's.
I selected the Hellburger which is described as Burger w/pepperjack cheese, topped w/ grilled jalapenos, green chiles, buffalo sauce and siracha." Spicy food is right up my alley so this sounded perfect, it came with fries and a drink for $8.50.
10 minutes later, it arrived. It was so skinny I had to pop the hood to verify that I didn't get a plain jane. Everything looked to be there. I didn't taste the siracha, and the grilled jalapenos were actually pickled. Those two ingredient changes greatly lowered the heat potential. The green chilis were probably poblanos so they didn't add anything.
The bun was grilled but otherwise non-descript. The fries were obviously cooked a fair bit ahead of time and held. Imagine how McD's fries taste when you get home after screwing up and having to stop for gas *after* you hit the drive through.
The burger was a quarter lb. Sysco low budget burger. The less said about this the better.
I ate the whole burger so I can't rate it lower than a 3 on my scale, however I recommend y'all look for better places than Sandeez.
